Keyboard Test Online

Press every key and see right away which ones work. It also catches keys that type twice (chatter) and shows how many keys register at once.

Press any key. While the test is on, keys don't do their usual job on this page (Tab, Space, F5 and so on), so every key can be checked.

Double typing (chatter) check

No key has registered twice yet. Press each key a few times to be sure.

Other tests

How it works

  1. 1Press each key in turn. Keys that work turn green; the key being held is blue.
  2. 2A key that stays white after pressing isn't registering. A key that stays blue after you let go is stuck.
  3. 3If a key registers twice within 30 milliseconds, it's marked yellow for double typing (chatter).
  4. 4Press several keys together, such as W, A, Shift and Space, to see how many register at once.

Common questions

Why don't Fn, Windows or Print Screen light up?

The Fn key is handled inside the keyboard and never reaches the computer. Keys like Windows, Print Screen or combinations like Alt+Tab are caught by the operating system first, so the browser doesn't always see them.

What is chatter or double typing?

A worn keyboard switch can bounce, so one press registers twice and letters come out doubled. Try cleaning it with compressed air; if it keeps happening, the switch or keyboard needs replacing.

How many keys at once is ideal for gaming?

At least 6 keys (6-key rollover) is enough for almost every game. Gaming keyboards usually support N-key rollover, while cheap laptop keyboards sometimes only read 2 or 3 keys in certain combinations (ghosting).
