Screen Refresh Rate Test

See what refresh rate your screen is running at right now, measured in the browser. Useful to check whether 90 Hz, 120 Hz or 144 Hz mode is really on.

Current refresh rate

…Hz

Measuring…

The block moves one step per frame. The higher the Hz, the smoother it moves.

Lower than the spec sheet?

  • Windows: Settings → Display → Advanced display, then pick the highest refresh rate.
  • Android: Settings → Display → Motion smoothness or Refresh rate, and turn off battery saver.
  • Monitor: use DisplayPort or HDMI 2.0 or newer, and keep the browser on that monitor.
  • iPhone: Safari caps web pages at 60 Hz by default.

Other tests

How it works

  1. 1The browser draws the page once per screen refresh. The time between those draws is measured continuously.
  2. 2The median of the last 120 or so frames is used, so one slow frame doesn't skew the result.
  3. 3The result snaps to a common refresh rate (60, 90, 120, 144 Hz and so on) when it's very close.
  4. 4A frame counts as skipped when the gap between draws is much longer than usual.

Common questions

My monitor is 144 Hz but it shows 60 Hz?

Usually a Windows setting. Go to Settings → Display → Advanced display and pick 144 Hz. Also make sure the cable supports it (DisplayPort, or HDMI 2.0 or newer) and that the browser is on that monitor.

My phone is 120 Hz but it shows 60 Hz?

Many phones drop the refresh rate in battery saver mode, or use an adaptive mode that falls to 60 Hz when nothing moves. Safari on iPhone also caps web pages at 60 Hz unless you change it under Settings → Safari → Advanced → Feature Flags.

What does a skipped frame mean?

It's a frame drawn late, so motion stutters for a moment. A few skipped frames are normal, especially when switching tabs. If the number keeps climbing fast, close other apps and run the test again.
