Mouse Test: Double Click & Polling Rate

Click every mouse button in the test area. Accidental double clicks are caught instantly, along with the scroll wheel, side buttons and polling rate.

How it works

  1. 1Point the mouse at the test area, then click each button a few times at a normal pace.
  2. 2Two clicks closer together than the limit (80 ms by default) count as an accidental double click. Fingers rarely click that fast.
  3. 3Move the mouse in quick circles inside the area to measure polling rate: how many times per second the mouse reports its position.
  4. 4Scroll up and down to check the wheel doesn't jump the wrong way.

Common questions

Why does my mouse double click on its own?

Usually the click switch is worn or dirty, so one press registers twice. It's common on mice that have seen a lot of use. Replace the switch, claim the warranty or get a new mouse.

My polling rate is lower than the box says?

Plug the mouse straight into a USB port (not a hub) and set the polling rate in the mouse's own software. Chrome and Edge give the most accurate reading; Firefox and Safari can read lower.

The side buttons (back/forward) change the page?

While the pointer is inside the test area, page navigation is blocked. Some browsers still navigate on the side buttons; if that happens, come back to this page and run the test again.
