Speaker & Headset Test
Make sure left and right aren't swapped, then check how low and how high your speakers, earphones or headset can go.
Start low. Test tones can be loud on a headset or earphones.
Left and right
Press one. The sound should come from the matching side.
Most accurate with earphones or a headset. Many phones have a single speaker, so left and right sound the same.
Test tones
Play them one at a time to check bass through treble.
Frequency sweep 20 Hz – 20 kHz
The tone rises slowly from the lowest to the highest. Note the number where the sound starts and where it fades out.

How it works
- 1Turn the volume down first, then raise it slowly. Test tones can be loud, especially on a headset.
- 2Press Left, Right or Both. The sound should come from the matching side. If it's swapped, check how the earphones are worn or your audio settings.
- 3Play the test tones one at a time. Phone speakers usually can't produce 60 Hz; a good headset can.
- 4Run the frequency sweep and note the number where the sound starts and where it fades out.
Common questions
I can't hear 15 kHz — are my speakers broken?
Not necessarily. Hearing for high notes fades with age, and many adults can't hear above 15–16 kHz. Compare with other earphones or ask someone else to listen.
Sound only comes from one side?
Check the plug is pushed all the way in, then check the Mono Audio setting under Accessibility on your phone or in Windows. If the settings are right and it's still one-sided, the cable or speaker driver is likely faulty.
Is it safe for my speakers?
Yes, at a sensible volume. Avoid playing bass tones at full volume for long on small speakers, as it can make them distort.
